History of The Savannah Landlords’ Association

Over 20 years ago Mike Wilson and Larry Wimpy felt a need to have a forum where landlords and property owners could come together to discuss their problems and concerns. The founders of the Savannah Landlords’ Association began with only a few members in their group who met to air their issues and to share problems and solutions. Over a short period of time the topics grew and membership increased as word spread to other property owners. Not satisfied with just discussing problems the association took it upon themselves to work at making “real” changes in the legislation concerning the dispossessory process. A political action committee was formed and they set a goal to reduce the number of days it took for the eviction process to be completed. After years of contacting various members of the Georgia legislature and presenting them with the changes that where wanted success was made when the number of days were reduced from ten to seven.

The hard work and dedication that it took to change the legislation that benefited every property owner in Georgia did not go unnoticed. The Savannah Landlords’ Association was contacted by the Georgia Real Estate Investors Association (GaREIA) to discuss forming a union between the two organizations. In 1999 the Savannah Landlords’ Association voted to become a chapter of GaREIA and currently holds the distinction of being the largest chapter.

Over the years as the membership grew so did the dedication of the association to provide the best education and resources needed to help its members to become successful real estate investors. Each meeting is designed to provide an opportunity to network, share concerns, provide solutions and discuss current issues. A guest speaker is featured at each meeting with topics that relate to real estate managing or real estate investing. It is the purpose of the association, by providing guest speakers on a large variety of areas in real estate, to educate and to expand the knowledge of all its members.

The Savannah Landlords’ Association is an organization for all investors and property owners-- from the large investors to a single unit owner. We warmly invite you to join us to see for yourself if we could be an asset to your real estate investing or managing.

We met on the second Tuesday of each month at the Savannah Board of Realtors building located at 7395 Hodgson Memorial Drive beginning at 6:00 PM for refreshments with the guest speaker beginning at 7:00 PM. Whether you are a resident from the Greater Savannah Area or a visitor passing through you are cordially invited to share the evening with us.
